David B. Cooper, 77, of Johnstown, died on April 18, 2024 at home after fighting years of Mesothelioma. Born on September 26, 1946 in Johnstown, son of Raymond H. and Dorothy E. (Herbs) Cooper.
Preceded in death by parents, and infant grandson.
Survived by wife Anita (Dahmen-Partsch), two children Pamela Davies (Steve) Buffalo, NY and Eric Cooper, East Taylor, grandchildren Nicole Deskovic (Dave) and Kai (Jack Benard) Ontario, NY and great-grandson Dillon Cooper Deskovic, Niagara Falls, NY.
David was a 1964 graduate of East Conemaugh High School. He was a retired crane operator from Bethlehem Steel, Steelmaking Dept. He served on various committees for USWA 2635. He also worked at RTI, where he served as Plant Grievance Man and Trustee for USWA 2632. After retirement, Dave worked at several Dollar General Stores in the area, drove Med Van, and also at Express Yourself.
He was a private pilot and retired Major from the US Air Force Aux. He was a former member of the Warrior Flying Club.
He was a lifetime member of the Conemaugh Fire Company, The Conemaugh Eagles, where he served as president, and member of Woodvale Athletic Club.
He collected railroad memorabilia and books on trains and locomotives. David enjoyed weekend getaways, going to the Outer Banks, and camping in their pop-up camper. He liked going on cruises, spending time at the club’s drinking beer, and loved the new friends and family he acquired in the second phase of his life after meeting Anita. He was a Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan.
He loved his special friend, his daughter Pam. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be sadly missed.
David was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, 613 Locust Street, where a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11AM. Pastor Van Dyke. Entombment to follow at Grandview Mausoleum.
