Eugene "Cookie" Burns

Eugene "Cookie" Burns, 77, of Johnstown, died on March 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 17, 1946, in Johnstown, son of Frank and Mary (Casper) Burns.

Preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Sandra, son Eric Demetrius, nephew Frankie, brothers Frank Burns Jr., William "Booty" Burns, Robert "Pete" Burns, sister Clara Ann and her husband Ken Gibson, and special family member of Delores Sloan.

Survived by his loving daughters Kriste wife of Mark Sloan, and Kelley Robison, grandchildren Ian, Piper, and Mark, great granddaughter Ruby Rose, nephews Kenneth Gibson Jr. married to Ann, Rev. Scott Lill and wife Shelley, special friend Erin Eschrich, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He attended the Epiphany Apostolic Monastery for 2 years at the age of 14 in New York City.

Cookie retired from Bethlehem Steel after 20 years of service and worked as a Deputy Sheriff and at the Federal Marshalls Office. He continued to work for Garda Armored Car Service for 20 years until retirement. His true passion in life was bodybuilding. He was trained under Arthur Jones and competed in many bodybuilding competitions. He even once competed against Arnold Schwarzenegger. He won many awards, including the Mr. Eastern States. Cookie was a member of Our Lady of Mercy in Prospect and a longtime member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and family will be received from 5-7 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday at St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Fr. Matthew Baum. Interment, St. John Gualbert Cemetery.
