George Walko Jr. 89, of Southmont and Arbutus Park Manor died on March 3, 2024. Born on May 4, 1934, in Johnstown. Beloved son of George and Susanna Walylko. Preceded in death by his parents, Loving wife Suzanne (Hoffman) of 66 years, brothers Thomas and Raymond, sister Maxine Pinelli, Brothers in law James Pinelli and Robert Carbaugh, Sister in law Anna May Walko, and Son in law Thomas Price.
Survived by Children Diana Price, Theresa (Timothy) Rough, George Scott Walko (Jacqueline Widman), Wendy (Raymond) Rosenbaum, John Walko (Tammy Dorian); Grandchildren, Michael (Casey) Welsh, Heather (Keith) McMillan, Nathan (Emily) Rosenbaum, Natalie (Robert) Lang, Jacob (Nichole) Rosenbaum, Daniel (Crissi) Price, Sarah (Andrew) Alikhani, Melissa (Steven) DeLorge, Joshua Rosenbaum (and special buddy, Dingo), Johnny Walko, Matthew (Audrey) Price, Ashley (Michael) Petroczky; Great-Grandchildren, Anna, Max, and Brock Rosenbaum, Robert, Casey, and Cora Lang, Cameron, Caden, and Delaney Price, Michael and Lucas Welsh, Brynlee and Amelia Rosenbaum, Jacob, Jaxon, and Henry DeLorge, Arya and Mila Price, Olivia, Landen, and Addie Petroczky. Also survived by loving sisters Marian Carbaugh and Virginia (William) Varner; Brothers in law Lynn (Marcia Wolfhope) Hoffman and William Hoffman and Many loving nieces and nephews.
George, Suzanne, and son John were the owners of the antique shop Curiosity Corner in Moxham. George loved to go to auctions and flea markets and was well known at them. He was in his glory when he was well enough to go to a flea market last summer. George served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg N.C. He graduated from Ferndale High School. He worked at Nehi Bottling Company and Grandview Greenhouse. Then was a Crane Supervisor at Seward Power Plant. He worked in the voting polls in Southmont with Suzanne. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Was a fan of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. He loved gardening and had a green thumb. Member of Moxham Lutheran Church.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Rev. Regina Holiday. Interment to follow are Casebeer Church Cemetery, Sipesville PA with a Military Ritual conducted by Somerset County Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Conemaugh Oncology and Dr. Higbee, the excellent staff at the VA, the wonderful nurses at Conemaugh Hospice, and the exceptional staff at Arbutus Park Manor Crossroads. He was well loved and cared for by them all.
