Marion Louise (Schmadel) Raco

Marion Louise (Schmadel) Raco, 80, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully at Juniper Skilled Nursing Facility in State College in the early morning of September 1, 2019.  She was under the loving and unwavering care of her husband of 59 years, Frank Raco, Jr.

Marion was born on January 28, 1939 and was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Ellen (Hudson) Schmadel, and brothers, Joseph and Ronald Schmadel.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Raco; Son, Vincent Raco; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Paul and Linda (Gathagan) Raco; and her treasured grandchildren, Marina, Angela, Joe, Matthew and Jonathan.  Also survived by her brother, Donald and wife Cindy Schmadel, Siblings-in-Law, Halene Schmadel, Patty Schmadel, Fred and Judy Raco, Mary Mastovich and Jay Wicks and many, nieces and nephews and Cat, Lucy.

Marion was a Bishop McCort Graduate, where she attended with lifelong friends Gene (deceased) and Kay Swetz of Westmont.  She was a long-time employee for the City of Johnstown in the Finance Department.  Marion and her family were life-long members of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Johnstown.

Marion’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed Cruises with husband Frank and Fred and Judy Raco.  Her favorite times were when she and Frank took their kids and families on their yearly vacation and when she was playing cards with family and friends.

She was a very generous person.  As most will remember, Marion was a tremendous Christmas Cookie Baker and shared them with many, many people.  Marion will be sorely missed, especially by Frank.

The family would like to also thank Juniper in State College, Mount Nittany Medical Center and UPMC Hospice for their help, comfort and support this week.

Friends received from 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, East Hills Chapel and Crematory, 404 Walters Ave. (Near Pa Drivers Center). Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fr. Walter Moll. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.
