Anthony Shorto Obituary

Anthony R. "Tony" Shorto, 80, Ferndale, died September 2, 2019, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born December 28, 1938, in Johnstown, son of Russell and Mary (Yasika) Shorto.

Preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita (Filia) Shorto; by his children Russell (Pamela Twigg) Shorto, Gina Dominique (Baird) Hersey, Scott Shorto, and Eva (Scott) Trout; by his grandchildren Jessica Mann, Noah Shorto, Nicco Shorto, Nathan Shorto, Jonah Trout, Sophia Trout, Anna Shorto, Eva Shorto, and Anthony Shorto; by step-grandchildren Reinier, Hector and Benjamin Koch, Eric, Joncarl, and Katina Hersey; by his sister Anna Marie "Sis" (John) Bortoli, his brother Joseph (Marilyn) Shorto; by sisters-in-law Josie Otto and Jean Curtis; by brother-in-law Pat Filia; and by many loving nieces and nephews.

Tony was an entrepreneur in Johnstown, whose endeavors included Hi-Ho Auto Sales, Nino's Take-Out, the Office Lounge, the Factory Discotheque, College Park Plaza, and dozens of real estate ventures. He was a life-long jazz enthusiast, and for 31 years he was a dedicated friend of Bill W. He devotedly counseled and mentored many.

The most important thing in the world to Tony was the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren and family. As his grandson Nicco said, "The world today lost its greatest philosopher, husband, father, and grandfather, who touched so many lives that it'd take me eons to count them all. Rest in peace, Anthony Shorto, forever the patriarch of the Shorto clan." He will be terribly missed by his wife and family.
