Erma Visnovsky Obituary

Erma Elizabeth Visnovsky, 93, of Westmont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her two daughters on Saturday, April 20, 2019. 

Born September 10, 1925 in Windber, daughter of Julius and Anna (Kiraly) Blasko.  Last surviving member of her immediate family.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eugene and Julius, and husband George Visnovsky in 1997 ending a 51 year marriage.

Survived by loving children: Robert (Betteanne Weydig) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; twin daughters Barbara and Carol, both of Johnstown; and her #1 grandchildren:  Matthew, Emily, and Sarah; Nana to Caroline and Margaret Carlson, Murrysville, PA; and also many nieces and nephews.

She was a 1943 graduate of Windber Area High School. After graduation, went to Cleveland, OH to work at General Motors (Fisher Body Plant) as a Rosie the Riveter for B-29 bombers during WWII, returned to Windber to work at the American Red Cross, Windber Chapter where she met her future husband George, later worked at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital Business Office for twenty years.  Her grandchildren were her greatest source of pride and loved all their Johnstown six-week summer visits.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  As the matriarch of the family, always holding all the family gatherings at her home for both sides of the family.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends all over the world, going to the casino, and listening to Frank Sinatra songs.  Erma loved watching the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates.  She kept up with all her friends and news in her home town of Windber. 

The family wishes to thank special home caregiver Shannon along with Lynda, Becky, and her “Friend” Michelle for helping keep Erma in her home.  Also, thank you to the staff of Interim Hospice Care for their support and assistance. Erma was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church for over 68 years.

Friends and family will be received from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Funeral Mass and Celebration of her Life will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 at 10:00 am at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church with Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
