Joan Hartnett Obituary

Joan (Rudge) Hartnett, 87, of Johnstown, died peacefully surrounded by family on April 27, 2019 at The Villa.  Born February 4, 1932 in Johnstown, daughter of George and Lola (Harshberger) Rudge.

Preceded in death by her parents and brothers Milton and Herbert Rudge.

Survived by children Scot married to Mary (Sheehan); Robin wife of Edwin Taylor; Shaun married to Lori (Babic); and Kelly wife of Robert Flick; grandchildren Ruthie and Wesley Hartnett, Ashley Roditis, Matthew and Adam Taylor, Logan and Shannon Hartnett, Ryan and Kyle Flick; great grandchildren Brayden, Mason, and Lola Roditis, and Tyson, Charlie, and Elliana Hartnett.

A graduate of Greater Johnstown High School, she worked for the General Telephone Company as a telephone operator prior to becoming a full-time mom, a role she cherished beyond words. Her unquestioned and absolutely unconditional love and devotion were a constant and ever dependable force in the lives of her children, grandchildren and their children. Her mere presence or just simply knowing she was just a phone call away, gave comfort to all. A great cook and baker, she willingly shared her (not-so) secret recipes with anyone who asked. Her homemade gobs, (you know, the kind with the perfect cake and butter cream icing) were the best ever. Always a special occasion, she worked hard to make holidays and birthday celebrations special and will forever be held close in the hearts and memories of her loving and grateful family. Everything was perfect….always. Forever a stable force and inspiration, she lives on in the hearts and souls of her family. Her memory will continue to live on, guiding those whose lives she touched to be kind, compassionate humble and giving. She was an avid bridge player, a member of the Johnstown Flower Club and delivered ‘meals-on-wheels’ to the elderly and disabled. Joan will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Private Services will be held for family.
