John Ungar Obituary

John W. Ungar, 85, of Westmont, died on July 1, 2019. Born April 9, 1934 in Cleveland OH

Preceded in death by his parents John and Caroline.  Survived by his loving wife Bernadette whom he married July 2, 1955 at the Church of Saint Dominic, Shaker Heights, Ohio. Loving family, Janet Ungar and fiancé Dr. Thomas Kovalcik; Mary wife of Robert Swaney; and Ellen wife of Dr. Del Kovacevic; grandchildren Matthew, Shawn, and Grant Swaney, Dr. Nicholas and Gina Kovacevic.

John graduated from Benedictine High School in 1952. He received his Bachelors from John Carroll University and his MBA in hospital administration from Xavier University.

John served in the US Army Security Agency in Asmara, Eritrea.

John was employed in administration for 33 years before retiring as CEO and President at Lee Hospital in 1998. John was devoted to the hospital and his employees and was respected and loved by his "Lee Family".

The Lee Family recognized John's role, saying how he cared about each and every employee. He created a friendly work environment that made people feel valued and enjoyed going to work. John created a legacy that goes far beyond the time at Lee.

John was a Fellow of The American College of Healthcare Executives.

He was a member of SCORE, the Lions Club, and longtime member of Sunnehanna Country Club where he enjoyed golfing.

Friends received Friday, July 5, 2019 from 3-6 PM at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd.

John was a longtime member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church where friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Very Rev. Mark S. Begly.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Laurel View Village, 2000 Cambridge Drive, Davidsville PA 15928 or to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave. Windber PA 15963 in memory of John W. Ungar.
