Agnes Marie Sakmar, 95, of Lower Yoder, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 20, 2022. Born September 7, 1927, in Johnstown, PA. Daughter of Stephen and Irene (Kucera) Topscher. Preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years Stephen R. Sakmar, son David, infant son Thomas, infant grandchildren Aaron, Jill, and Kristie, sister Maxine Ling, and brother Stephen Topcher.
Survived by children Philip and his wife Elizabeth, Nancy, wife of the late Paul Turnley of Wexford, Jane wife of Jim Spisak, Donna wife of John Foster Wallace of Fairbanks, AK; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Agnes was a 1945 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School. She married her dear husband of 73 years in 1949. She was an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, working in the cafeteria for over 20 years, and a member of the Prayer Chain and Bereavement Group. She passionately supported Pro-Life and Birthright of Johnstown and attended Pro-Life marches. Agnes loved cooking for her family, especially Slovak Food, and was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and will always be remembered for her kindness, understanding, and many words of wisdom.
Friends received from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown, PA. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Fr. Anthony Francis Spilka, OFM Conv and Very Rev. Mark Begly.
Interment, St. Francis Cemetery.
