Atty. Daniel R. Lovette, 77, of Westmont, quietly passed into eternal life on August 21st, at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1946, the son of Dr. John B. Lovette, MD and Catherine Evans Lovette.
After graduating from Westmont High School in 1964, he earned a degree in economics from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA in 1968. He began working for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, Pittsburgh Works Division, where he worked as an Industrial Relations Management Trainee until 1973. During this time he attended Duquesne Law School in the night division (1969 to 1973) and graduated with a Juris Doctor. He and his family then moved to Johnstown, PA. He and his wife Linda and their two daughters resided in Westmont. Dan worked with Atty. Marlin Stevens and Atty. Gary L. Costlow for 25 years. He joined the law firm of Kaminsky, Thomas, Wharton, Lovette, & Vigna in 2000 as a partner and remained until he retired in 2021. He was an Assistant Public Defender in Cambria County from 1975 to 1990. He then worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Cambria County from 1990 to 2003. He was also an Opinion Writer for a Workmen’s Compensation Commissioner from 1991 to 1996. From 1996 to 2020 he was a Reader for the Pennsylvania Law Examiners Board. He was a member of the Cambria County Bar Association for many years, and was the President of the Cambria County Bar Association from 1996 to 1997. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and was a Zone 8 Delegate to that Association representing Cambria County and surrounding county bar associations. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Court of Common Pleas of Cambria County, the Federal District Court of Western Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He worked as a representative for Ameriserv Financial Bank and its predecessors, was a former solicitor of the Borough of Southmont for 30 years, the Westmont Hilltop Recreation Commission, Cambria County Transit Authority and other entities. He was a lifelong member of Sunnehanna Country Club, the Bachelors Club, and he and his family were members of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was a member of the Citizens Cemetery Association Board of Corporators for Grandview Cemetery. Dan enjoyed golfing and hunting. He and his wife traveled all over America, including California’s Wine Country and Arizona’s beautiful scenery. They also took many trips to Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife Linda J. “Lynn” Lovette (2022), and his beloved daughters Kara (1988), and Leigh Lovette Kopco (2022), his brother Dr. Michael P. Lovette (2022), his parents, aunts, uncles, brother–in-law Jeff Smith, and niece Melissa.
Dan will be sadly missed by his son-in-law Tod Kopco, his grandchildren: Alexandria “Allie” Kopco wife of Jeff Yuentz, Victoria “Torie” Kopco wife of Sean Wozniak, and Andrew Daniel Kopco married to Caroline DeLuca. Also by brothers Dr. John B. “Barney” Lovette II DDS, and wife Mary Lu; David Lovette RPh, and wife Sharon (Frick), and sisters-in-law Cathy Lovette (Mike) and Barbara (Smith) wife of George Lentz. Also survived by beloved nieces and nephews: Amy (Mark), Krista, Kate (Michael), John (Casey), Madeleine (Andy), Matthew, Patrick (Kali), Timothy, Dr. Daniel T. (Alanna), Caroline (Adam), and grandnieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, August 24th from 4 to 7 PM at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown, PA 15905.
Family and friends will meet at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 415 Tioga Street for a Funeral Mass at 11AM on Friday, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, Celebrant. Private interment at Grandview Cemetery.
