Bernice Clites Obituary

Bernice Clites, 95, formerly of Westmont, passed peacefully December 21, 2020 at Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook, PA. Born December 17, 1925 in Portage Township, daughter of the late John and Rose (Sendzik) Lang.  Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray H. Clites and great-grandchild Daniel Clites; sisters Ruth Coppersmith, Dorothy Root, Jennie Kertes and brothers Raymond Lang and Elmer Lang.  Survived by children:  Linda (Ev Custer), Patricia (Guy Krisay), Diane (Richard Raab), David Clites (Maryann Sprain), and sister-in-law Rhola Ripple-Lang. Bernice is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda C. Sharp, Stanton E. Custer (Jessie), Kate C. Kwedar (Josh), Wes Krisay (Alexis), Chelsey L. Krisay, Jesse Raab (Jennifer), Kevin Raab (Stephanie), Emily Raab Gentile (John), Matthew Clites (Maddie) and Robert (Annemarie) and Troy Clites; also, great-grandchildren Mason, Henry and Cooper Raab, Kaiden, Dylan and Cash Krisay, Camille and Penelope Kwedar, Caroline Sharp, and Bernice Renee Clites. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernice was a graduate of the former Mercy School of Nursing, was a Cadet Nurse, worked at Cleveland Christian Home for Children and Seay Memorial Home for Children in Somerset, PA.  Retired from CVMH (hospital and nursing home), volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and Laurelwood Convalescent Center. Post retirement, she provided private duty nursing services.

Enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking, and baking.  Knitted over 500 hats for cancer patients and premature babies, helmet liners for armed forces personnel, and many other treasured items for family and friends.  Particular favorites were her socks and mittens. Bernie was known for her loving and giving nature, always generously sharing her talents and gifts with others.

Bernice was a longtime member of Berkley Hills Christian Church, attended Westmont Church of the Brethren (member of the choir). Most recently, she attended services while residing at Tel Hai (“Hill of Life”).

Following the loss of her husband of 64 years, she found friendship and loving care at Tel Hai.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Tel Hai for their continuous love and support over the course of six years.

In the midst of Covid, Bernice received compassionate support from Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care, Newtown Square, PA.

There will be no viewing at the family's request. Memorial service will be held at a later date for a celebration of her life. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
