Carol Ann (Custer) McGowan

Carol Ann McGowan, 82, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on November 24, 2024.  She was born in Johnstown, PA on September 14, 1942, daughter of Boyd O. and Cathern L. (Jeffers) Custer.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry “Ronnie” McGowan (2005) and her sisters, Sue Gore and Dee Dee Manda.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children, Michele (Brian Lintz) of Laurel, MD, Michael of Silver Spring, MD, and Stephen (Dawn Stuart) McGowan of Ijamsville, MD.  Also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Landy, Ryan Lintz, Zachary Lintz, Jennifer McGowan, and Stephen Patrick McGowan Jr., sister, Peg (Lynn) Schrock of Johnstown, her brother Ron Custer (Texas), her sister-in-law, Mary Alice Drummer of Johnstown, and brother-in-law Mike Gore and Bill Manda of Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also she leaves behind her fur baby Peaches.  With a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Carol's reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.

Carol graduated from Ferndale High School.  She married her husband, Harry “Ronnie” (1960).  Together they moved to the Washington, D.C. area for better work opportunities.  She retired as an Administrative Assistant from the University of Maryland.  

Carol continued to give and help others. Even amidst the challenges life brought her way when sick or in pain, she never faltered in caring for her loved ones and her dogs more than she did for herself.  Her life served as a testament to her philosophy, "You can be a survivor or you can be a victim, “ and “The world moves on, even when we’re not ready."

Friends will be received 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Sunday, December 01, 2024 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, PA 15905.

Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Monday, December 02, 2024 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, 415 Tioga Street, Johnstown, PA 15905.

Entombment at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
