Carolyn F. Rippin, 86, of Johnstown, died February 29, 2020.
Born February 8, 1934, daughter of Joseph and Ellen Byers. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Dick, and by her brother, Ronald Byers. She is survived by her sons Kevin, David and Thomas, blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, Carolyn was the beloved matriarch of the Rippin family.
A fifth-grade science and geography teacher at Cypress Ave. Elementary School, Carolyn was respected by her colleagues and loved by her students. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Carolyn was also valedictorian of her Johnstown High School senior class.
A movie buff, an avid "true crime" reader, and a dedicated Pittsburgh Penguin fan, Carolyn displayed a multitude of talents. She could plumb a clogged sink in the morning, fix a leaky roof in the afternoon, then turn around and make her famous chocolate chip cookies in the evening.
Family and friends of Carolyn will be received at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. on Tuesday, March 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Interment at Grandview Cemetery to follow.
