On May 9th, Catherine “Katie” Jean Nanna entered paradise. She lived 95 remarkable years filled with the abundant love of her family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Murray K. Nanna, a former Johnstown police sergeant, an infant granddaughter, Katie Isabella-Marie Barron, parents, Margaret Filia and Carmelo Cortora and stepfather Alexander Filia, an infant brother Michael Cortora and brother Charles Filia. A fun loving and adored grandmother to Michael Barron, Dr. Joshua M. Wilfong (Dr. Amy Bagatto), Dr. Jordan Wilfong (Dr. Jeanelle Sears) and Jake Wilfong. She was Gigi to Lucy Jane Wilfong and Moses B. Wilfong. A second mother to her dedicated brother, Frank Filia, who visited her daily when they sang her favorite songs together. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
We are forever grateful for the extraordinary team of care givers who for the past five years provided constant attention and love to our Mum. Katie worked at Kinney Shoe Store for 53 years and is remembered for her keen business sense and hard work ethic. She received salesperson of the year many times. She was a member of the Christian Mother’s Society of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church in Woodvale and a volunteer at St. Benedict School. Katie will be remembered for her great conversations, amazing storytelling skills, but most of all for her famous pink cookies that she so generously shared with everyone. She was devoted to St. Joseph, St. Ann and the Blessed Mother who carried her to her eternal home on Mother’s Day.
