Catherine Louise “Kaye” Sherlock Esaias

Catherine Louise “Kaye” Sherlock Esaias, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 8, 2024. Born April 27, 1928 in Windber PA to the late Regis and Irene (Hobart) Sherlock. 

Preceded in death by husband Donald R. Esaias, brothers Hobart, Robert, John and Patrick Sherlock, sisters-in-law Gladys, Florence, Polly and Donna.  Survived by daughters Kathleen (James) Sharer and Karen (Richard Von Schlichten), sister Nancy Anderson, grandsons Donald J Liles and Sean Liles, great grandson Jack Logan Liles and several nieces and nephews. 

Catherine was a proud graduate of Windber H.S. and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1949.  As a Registered Nurse, she was the supervisor of the Mercy Hospital operating room prior to raising her children.  After returning to nursing, she worked again at Mercy in the ER and OR, then taught anatomy and physiology at Cambria Rowe Business College before taking over as the Director of the Health Center at UPJ, where she worked for 16 years.  She loved to travel, read, and spend time with good friends, and she loved being the best Nana ever to D.J. and Sean. 

The family would like to thank the dedicated healthcare workers who assisted in her last years – you know who you are!

Friends received from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Frank Duca Funeral Home Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905.

Kaye was a founding member of St Clement Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday July 12 at 11:00am, Father Rosenbaum presiding.  Interment Grandview Cemetery.
