D. Joan Straitiff, 70, formerly of Johnstown and Annandale VA, died on December 17, 2024 in Pittsburgh. Born on August 7, 1954, daughter of William I. and Dorothy E. (Klinger) Straitiff, she was one of six siblings.
Preceded in death by both parents and sisters, Lynne Beck and Claudia Straitiff.
Survived by sisters: Patricia, wife of Larry Casale, Vero Beach FL; Susan, wife of Craig Stuver, Pittsburgh PA; and Natalie, Johnstown PA; niece, Candace Johnson (and her daughter, Kifer Johnson), Atlanta GA; nephews: Michael Casale (Annie, and their daughters, Juniper and Coral Casale), Seattle WA; Daniel Casale (and his son, Samuel Casale), Vero Beach FL; and Jonathan Stuver, Pittsburgh PA; as well as her beloved toy poodle, Bella.
Joan graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School, and then from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology & Audiology, before obtaining her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). At the time of her retirement, she had been employed as a Human Resources Manager by the Alexandria (VA) Department of Community & Human Services. After retiring, Joan moved to Pittsburgh to be closer to her mother and sisters.
Joan was an avid reader, animal lover, and a member of Hearts and Paws, a pet ministry of the Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park PA.
Joan was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and one of the kindest and most thoughtful people you could ever meet. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her.
All arrangements will be private, with a Celebration of Joan’s Life to be held at a future date.
