Donald B. Irwin, 92, of Geistown, died on September 23, 2020. Born on February 9, 1928, in Johnstown, son of Harry and Elsie (Rex) Irwin.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Eileen Sloan, daughter Maureen Irwin, grandson Bobby Schutte, siblings Harry Irwin and Lucille Stoup.

Survived by children, Donna wife of Robert Schutte, Jacqueline wife of Michael Omahne, Sandra wife of Thomas Torchia, Kathleen wife of Robert Clark, Donald married to the former Shelly Nowak, and Mark married to the former Tanya Mowry; grandchildren, Robyn (Cecil) Schutte, Michael Omahne, Jason (Oxana) Omahne, Brian (Jennifer) Omahne, Major Thomas (Allison) Torchia, Tara (Damian) Vuckovich, Tyler Torchia, Tiffany (fiance Joseph Ostinowsky) Torchia, Maura Clark, Ashley Irwin, Brittany Irwin, Courtney Irwin, Delaney Irwin, Alyssa (Matt) Stephens, James Irwin, and Marcus Irwin; great grandchildren, Desmond Schutte, Jocelyn and Jordyn Omahne, Sophia Omahne, Taylor and Callie Vuckovich, and Jackson Stephens; and brother-in-law John R. Sloan.

Donald was a 1945 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from University of Pittsburgh. He was a US Navy Veteran. His career as a teacher and administrator in the Greater Johnstown School District was a source of great pride, especially his tenure as Principal of Greater Johnstown High School. He served as past treasurer of the Johnstown School Employees Federal Credit Union. Donald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was a role model and inspiration to his family. He was strong in his Catholic faith with an unwavering devotion to our Blessed Mother. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the McCullough Place staff’s kind and loving care for “Pap.”

Fr. David Peles will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict Catholic Church where Donald was a 66-year member. Interment, Grandview Cemetery with Military Ritual conducted by Marine Corp. League Detachment 287. Due to COVID-19 all services are private.
