Bernard P. McQuillan, MD, 89, of Westmont, died on May 19, 2024 at home. Born on April 19, 1935 in Flushing NY. He was the son of Arthur T. and Nora (Nugent) McQuillan and was preceded in death by his parents and brother Arthur T. McQuillan.
Survived by his loving wife Catherine “Kitty” (Griffith); loving children Art McQuillan (Lynne); Maureen McQuillan; Pat McQuillan (Kathy); Katie Dorian (Shawn); Mickey McQuillan; Kelly Callihan (Derrick); Molly McQuillan; Kevin McQuillan; and Bryan McQuillan (Kendra); 28 grandchildren; Cullen, Shea, Lane, Jesse, Noah, Erin, Conor, Ryan, Peyton, Adam, Nick, Kylie, Katie, Liam, Declan, and Nora McQuillan; Kitty (Mack Marcenelle), Kevin (Lindsay), Dillon (Maddie), Galen, Hannah (Ryan Siwy), Jacob, Clayton, Ellie, Ayda and Danny Dorian; Quinn and Molly Callihan. 11 great-grandchildren; Jack, Mary Kate, Jude, Lucy, Tilly and Huck Marcenelle; June and Rowan Dorian; Eila and Maeve Siwy; Micah McQuillan; sisters Joyce Gasser and Mary Catherine Hicks, also close friends Mark Foltz, Kristen McQuillan, Kris Stewart, Paradise Valley NV, and beloved family in Long Island NY.
Dr. McQuillan was a 1952 graduate of Xavier High School in Long Island, New York. He earned his bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Ohio State Medical Center; his Medical Residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center; and his NIH Fellowship at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis Missouri. He was Lt. Commander in the United States Naval Reserve. He served on the US Pacific Fleet, Destroyer. He was a Senior Medical Officer. He was on the Joint Task Force 8, Christmas Island, and had secret clearance as a Nuclear Testing Physician. Dr. McQuillan spent 3 years in the Navy Reserve, US Navy Sea Bees, Jackson MI, US Marine Corp Reserves, St. Louis MI, and was labeled as an Atomic Veteran. Dr. McQuillan had private practices in Internal Medicine/Cardiology in Johnstown, PA, and was an active staff member at Lee Hospital and Mercy Hospital. He was proud of his “Miner’s Clinic” in Winnemucca, Nevada, which he ran for 15 years. He worked for the US Department of Labor, Division of Coal Worker’s Pneumoconiosis Black Lung Program, and was an Impartial Physician for the Commonwealth of PA Workmen’s Compensation Court. Dr. McQuillan also worked for the State Correctional Institute/Laurel Highlands, UPMC Bedford Internal Medicine, State Correctional Institute/Pine Grove, Med Express Urgent Care (multiple locations), Utah Department of Corrections, Department of Homeland Security, LHS Lutheran Health Services, and UPMC Susquehanna. He was a former owner of the Johnstown Jets, and the Johnstown Redwings, and served as a league trustee. Dr. McQuillan was brilliant, faith-filled, kind, and incredibly generous. He will always be so loved and missed, “until we meet again.”
Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown PA 15905.
Friends and family will meet for a Funeral Mass at 10 AM on Friday at St. Clement Church. Fr. William Rosenbaum. Interment, Grandview Cemetery with a Military Ritual conducted by Conemaugh Valley Marine Corp League, Detachment 287.

This scholarship provides an annual scholarship to support a graduating senior student at Westmont Hilltop who demonstrates a strong history of volunteer work and community service.
