In Loving Memory of Dr. Cyril Nathaniel

Dr. Cyril Nathaniel, 65, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, following a courageous battle with stage IV colon cancer.

Born October 21, 1960, Cyril devoted his life to medicine, family, faith, and service to others. Originally from India, he pursued his dream of becoming a physician through determination, perseverance, and hard work. He completed his medical education, an Internal Medicine residency in New Jersey, and a Cardiology fellowship at the University of Connecticut. In 1996, he and his family made Johnstown their home.

Cyril went on to build a distinguished career as a cardiologist, caring for patients throughout the region and holding privileges at Conemaugh, Windber, Somerset, and Jefferson hospitals. During his approximately 30 years at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, he became a highly respected member of the medical community and was instrumental in the development and advancement of the hospital’s Interventional Cardiology programs, helping expand advanced cardiac care throughout the region. He also played an instrumental role in the development of the Interventional Cardiology program at Somerset Hospital. 

Throughout his career, Cyril received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to medicine and patient care.

Cyril was deeply respected by his patients, colleagues, and hospital staff. He was known not only for his knowledge and skill as a cardiologist, but also for the compassion, kindness, and generosity he showed to those around him. He continued practicing medicine nearly until the end of his life, remaining committed to his patients and profession even while facing his own illness.

Cyril married Parveen in 1985, and together they moved to the United States in 1987. They raised three sons, David, Paul, and Mark, and built their family life in Pennsylvania. Cyril remained devoted to his family and maintained close relationships with his brother, sister, and loved ones. Later in life, he shared many meaningful years with Pam, with whom he enjoyed traveling and spending time together.

Outside of medicine, Cyril enjoyed traveling, bowling, kayaking, bicycling, motorcycles, automobiles, and music. He had a special affection for animals and was known for taking in stray cats and giving them a home.

Faith was an important part of Cyril’s life. He believed that his accomplishments and blessings were gifts from God and remained grateful throughout his life. His faith provided him with strength and comfort through both the joys and challenges he encountered.

Following his cancer diagnosis in December 2023, Cyril faced his illness with remarkable courage and determination. He underwent multiple surgeries and treatments while continuing to approach life with optimism, humor, and concern for others. Even during some of his most difficult moments, he remained more concerned about the people around him than himself. He fought his illness with extraordinary grace and continued working almost until the day before his final hospitalization.

During his final days, many members of the hospital staff who had known and worked with Cyril for decades expressed their gratitude for having had the opportunity to know him. He was remembered not only as an exceptional physician, but as a kind and generous person who made a lasting difference in the lives of countless patients, colleagues, friends, and families.

Cyril leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, faith, perseverance, and dedication to others. His contributions to medicine will continue to benefit the community he served, while the memories he created with his family, friends, colleagues, and patients will remain with those who knew him.

He was a remarkable man who meant so much to so many and whose impact will continue through the lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Frank Duca Funeral Home in Westmont, Pennsylvania.
