Dr. David C. Johns, 70, of Johnstown, died on November 23, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 23, 1953 in Johnstown, son of the late David D. and Cecelia T. (Krupa) Johns.
Survived by his devoted wife of 35 years Zena (Weber) Johns; their six loving children: Samantha Johns, Michael Johns, Lauren Johns, Rachael (Johns) McFoy and husband Shane, Amanda Johns, and David Johns; his brothers, Brian and Ronald Johns; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
David was a student of Greater Johnstown High School class of 1970 where he ran for the cross-country team. After graduating, he worked as a riveter for Bethlehem Steel’s Car Shop. He then went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown, earning his Doctoral Degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital where he was named Chief Resident (1991-1992) and later served as the President of Medical Staff (2002-2003) as well as on the Memorial Medical Center’s Board of Directors. Dr. Johns began practicing in 1992 and continued until his retirement in 2019. As well, he was proud to support his alma mater as the Sports Medicine Physician for Johnstown High School’s sports teams. He considered the people he treated, who knew him simply as ‘Doc’, to be more than patients. They were his friends.
When he wasn’t practicing medicine, he enjoyed fishing off the coast of Chincoteague Island, deer hunting, and taking long drives with his family.
Friends received from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi, Fr. Anthony F. Spilka, OFM Conv.
The family would like to thank Conemaugh Hospice for the kindness and care they offered to them all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 120 Barron Avenue, Johnstown PA 15906 in his memory.
