Dr. Edward B. Hill MD

Dr. Edward B. Hill MD, went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2024.  Born in 1935, Edward grew up in Johnstown attending Johnstown City Schools and completing 3 years at UPJ before his medical school education at Temple University.  He completed a one year residency at Conemaugh Memorial, and served for two years as a Captain in the Public Health Service during the Vietnam War.  He was a ship doctor for the Navy/Merchant Marine carrying supplies for the war effort.  Following his return, he continued his medical education at the University of Pittsburgh Orthopedic Surgery Department.  Dr. Hill was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study hand surgery at the Salgrenska Institute in Gothenburg, Sweden.  He set up his practice in his home town and practiced orthopedics for 51 years.  He did the first total hip replacement in Johnstown.  For 33 years he was the sports medicine doctor at St Francis University.  He became an Olympic doctor and cared for the Freestyle Ski team at events held in Italy.  He also spent two volunteer surgical tours for Orthopedic Overseas caring for refugees from the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in Peshawar Pakistan. 

Dr. Hill is survived by his wife of 59 years Sally, and children Eric (Kelly), Christian (Margie), Ethan (Susan) and Holly (Clay), his 6 grandchildren Marley, Alaina, Nolan, Gigi, Wyatt and Nathan fondly called him “Papadoc”. 

Friends received from 1-3 PM Sunday December 15, 2024 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Friends and family will meet for a Funeral Mass 10 AM Monday at Our Mother Of Sorrows Church, Very. Rev. Fr Mark Begly. Interment Grandview Cemetery.
