Dr. James Vizza

Dr. James Vizza, 73, of Richland, died at home on February 23, 2022. Born April 25, 1948 in Johnstown, son of James A. and Catherine (Aliquo) Vizza.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Survived by his loving and devoted wife Susan (Hemlock), sons Christian Vizza, Ryan Salem married to Catherine (Jennings), and Scott Salem married to Sherri (Curtis); grandchildren Ty, Trent, Alison, and Brendan Salem; brother Ronald Vizza married to Donna (Pritt), and brother-in-law John Hemlock married to Paulette (Shaffer). Also survived by Uncle Don Aliquo, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dr. Vizza was a 1966 graduate of Bishop McCort High School.  Jim continued in higher education earning a Bachelor of English from St. Francis University, a Master of Divinity from St. Francis Seminary, a Master of English Literature from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Psychology and a Doctorate of Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Vizza provided psychological services in the Johnstown area for over 35 years at Conemaugh Memorial and Windber Medical Centers.  He finished the last several years his career with Dalton Glover Associates in Greensburg, PA.

Jim had been a member of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, Sacred Heart Province, where he always felt a sense of community with many of the friars.

Jim’s love for his family and desire to help others defined his life.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. No words can properly express our gratitude to all those who continually offered prayers and support for Jim and our family. You have our sincere and everlasting love.

Friends and family will be received from 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm on Monday, February 28, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2201 Graham Avenue, Windber PA 15963, where a Funeral Mass will be held 1:30 pm to celebrate his life.
