Dr. Sanders “Sandy” Stuart Ergas

Dr. Sanders “Sandy,” Ergas, 74, formerly of Davidsville, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2025 in Leland, North Carolina. Born October 25, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Herman “Hy” and Evelyn (Feller) Ergas. 

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ira, and first wife Shelly (Bridge) Ergas. 

Survived by wife Heidi (Wild) Ergas, sons Heath (Amy Rummel), Sneads Ferry, NC., and Jeremiah (Jamie Harvey), Fairfax, VA, and daughter Lindsey Davis (Joseph), Raleigh, NC, grandchildren Shelden, Jonathan, Isaac and Elias Ergas; and Andrew and Shelly Ergas Davis. Also survived by a large extended family. 

Sandy grew up in Rockaway, NJ and graduated from Morris High School. He was a graduate of Penn State University and Thomas Jefferson University (family medicine). He began his residency at Latrobe Hospital in 1976. Sandy worked at St. Vincent Health in Leadville, CO (1979-1987), Lee Hospital (Emergency Department Director), and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA (1987-2008), Columbus Regional Health in Whiteville, NC (2008-2013) and was currently employed by MdLive. 

Sandy’s life was dedicated to those around him. He was a mentor to so many in the EMS and medical community. His compassionate and genuine personality made him a wonderful doctor, husband, father and friend. Sandy was an inspiration to all around him as he continued to live life fully despite a spinal cord injury in 2013. He worked diligently to maintain mobility that allowed him to enjoy many adventures with loved ones such as traveling, biking, golfing, and swimming in his pool. 

Sandy’s adventurous spirit, thirst for life and unbounding love for his devoted wife Heidi, his children, grandchildren and friends will be sorely missed by all that loved him.

Friends received on Monday July 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, PA 15905, followed by the service officiated by Rabbi Andrew Ergas. Burial will be at Maple Springs Cemetery.
