Gene Kelly

Gene Patrick Kelly, 56, of Indianapolis, formerly of Altoona, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 6, 2026. He was born August 23, 1969 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles Eugene Kelly Sr. and Rose Marie (DeWitt) Kelly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Marie Kelly; his brother, Jim Kelly and his sister-in-law, Sherri Kelly.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne (Cerula); his four sons: Daniel Christopher Kelly (Stephanie) of Heath Ohio, Sean Michael Kelly (Lenzie) of Heath Ohio, Nicholas Alexander Kelly (Gabrielle) of Carmel Indiana and Patrick Ian Kelly (Ramona) of Indianapolis Indiana; his three granddaughters: Cabella, Macie,and Laiken Kelly; his brother, Charles Eugene Kelly Jr. (Cheryl) of Greenwood Pennsylvania.

Gene grew up in Altoona, and was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, class of 1987. He enlisted in the US Army as a 91B Medical Specialist. Upon training completion, he served in the 4th Infantry Division in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He worked as a phlebotomist in Altoona Pennsylvania, Baltimore Maryland, and Indianapolis Indiana, most recently at Franciscan Health and Labcorp.

Gene was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Indianapolis, where he was a lector and volunteered for parish activities, notably the Thanksgiving Meal with his wife Carol. His passion was baseball and the Atlanta Braves as well as football and the Miami Dolphins.

A memorial Mass at St. Monica's is being planned for a later date.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 12-2 p.m. at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. A Funeral service will begin at 2:30pm Tuesday at the funeral home, Rev. Canice McMullen, OSB. Interment will immediately follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Johnstown, where a military ritual will be performed by VFW Post 155 in honor of Gene's service to his country.
