“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
George Nelson Morris, Jr., 87, of Southmont, passed away peacefully on September 20th, surrounded by his beloved wife of 59 years, Florence, and his devoted daughter, Emily.
George was one of a kind, unbound by convention and bursting with creativity. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and held a graduate degree in History from Carnegie Mellon University, which he earned through a scholarship granted to him when a professor came across an editorial he had submitted to the Tribune Democrat. He had a deep love for classic literature, European cars, poetry, classical music, seafood, and the work of Sigmund Freud. He spent countless hours writing calligraphy and filling journals with ponderings about history, Greek mythology and the state of the world.
An avid fly fisherman and hunter, George loved the outdoors and could identify any bird call. He was a living encyclopedia, an ingenious handy-man and had a sense of humor that people would remember long after meeting him.
He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret, father George Sr, step-father Adam, brother Joe and sister Nancy. He leaves behind his wife Florence, daughter Emily, son-in-law Javier, grandchildren Julian (13) and Eva (9), brother Dave, sister Mary and sister-in-law, Dorothy.
George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose curious spirit, quest for knowledge, and appreciation for nature was inspirational. He leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and a reminder to always be true to yourself. We love you and will never forget you.
All arrangements are private. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905.
