George D. Zamias Sr.

George D. Zamias Sr., age 92, of Westmont, died on September 17, 2022 in Johnstown. Born October 31, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Demo and Anna (Abraham) Zamias. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Marianna, sons Samuel and George Jr., brothers Gusty and James, and sisters Jessie and Kathryn. 

Survived by his sons Damian and his wife Kathryn (Horty) and Stephen,  daughter-in-law Kathleen Zamias, grandchildren Matthew, Lisa (Matt McGuire), Alexandra, Stephen (Julianna), Danielle (Kris Carlson), Jessica, Jennifer, Christopher (Marlena), Erik (Melanie), Samantha, Michael (Alyssa), and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Betsy wife of George Commandaros, and Maria "Angel" Seltzer, and his faithful companion Ginger.

George was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School, where he was named Valedictorian, and graduated with Honors from the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned a Master of Letters degree in Real Estate and Insurance in 1954. 

He began his career by teaching real estate and other related subjects at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a real estate salesperson for Penn Real Estate Co from 1953 -1961, at which time he became a licensed real estate broker in PA and started George D. Zamias Real Estate Company in 1961.  In the decades to follow he developed millions of square feet of retail space across the nation. 

Friends and family will be received from 5-7 PM on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Somerset Avenue, Johnstown PA 15901. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Somerset Avenue, Johnstown PA 15901 in memory of George.
