Isabelle "Nana" "Lupe" Shaw

Isabelle "Nana" "Lupe" Shaw, age 103, Johnstown, PA., died on June 28, 2021 at the home she lived in for 83 years.

Isabelle was born on January 10, 1918.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Margit Teleki Langan and her father Joseph Langan, also preceded in death by her beloved Ralphie, Wm. Ralph Shaw, husband of 57 years, daughter, Saundra Shaw Vargo, and grandson, Robert Vargo.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Vanessa Vargo Wozniak (John Wozniak), of Johnstown,  and Valoree Vargo (Bill Baft), of Hudson, OH, son-in-law Vincent E. Vargo. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Michael Wozniak and wife Jessica, Fort Worth, TX, Rachel Wozniak, Nashville, Cody Vargo, Harper’s Ferry, WV, granddaughter-in-law Amanda Vargo, great-grandsons, Jacob and Nichalas Vargo, Pittsburgh and great great-granddaughter, Skye Isabelle Wozniak.

Isabelle graduated from Johnstown High in 1935.  She lived in Windber, Cambria City, Moxham, Ferndale and when she and Ralph got married in 1937, they built a Sears kit-house where she has lived ever since.  Isabelle, known as Nana, to most, never sat still.  She was always busy planting flowers, shopping, making the world’s best mac and cheese, and listening to Perry Como.  She drove until she was 95 and was never caught without her lipstick on. She told wonderful stories of growing up in Windber and was part of a PBS documentary feature on Windber.

Nana was a staunch Democrat and voted in the last presidential election in November. To have our grandmother for all of these years has been a true blessing.  We will miss her forever!

There will be no viewing, a graveside ceremony will be conducted for immediate family at Grandview Cemetery.
