Italia "Iya" Maria Hanik

Italia Maria "Iya" Hanik, 26, of New Haven, Connecticut, formerly of Boswell, died on May 25, 2024. Born on June 4, 1997 in Johnstown.

Preceded in death by great-grandparents Mike and Mary Hanik, Antoinette Foster. Survived by parents Antoinette Hanik and Dale Tuttle, sister Gina Flanigan (Mark), brothers Michael (Abbey-Gale Brooks) and Dominic (Faith Hemminger), Dominik aka Nicholas "My Baby", grandparents John and Ella Foster, Michael and Rose Hanik, Antoinette Keel, and girlfriend Sneha Agarwal.

Iya was a 2015 graduate of North Star High School and a 2019 graduate of Temple University. After graduating from Temple, with a dual degree in Psychology and Neuroscience, Iya began working at Yale University as a research assistant at the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience lab. After five years of working, Iya was planning on pursuing the MSW program to work with other LGBTQ youth. 

A special thank you to Hedy, Soph, Nilo, Sophie, Daniel, Kiki, Jodie, and everyone in the CAN Lab for being Iya's family for the last 5 years. They will be sadly missed by her family and friends. 

Friends received from 12 Noon until 4 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, EAST HILLS CHAPEL and Crematory, 404 Walters Ave. Johnstown PA 15904. A service will begin at 4 PM. 

Private interment, St. Anthony Cemetery, Johnstown PA.
