James C. Pinelli, age 94, of Johnstown, died on May 29,2021 at Laurel View Village. Born on September 7, 1926 in Johnstown, son of Emilio and Cecelia (Bundy) Pinelli.
Preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 65 years, Maxaline S. (Walylko) Pinelli, sister Helen (Pinelli) Soho, and his favorite Aunt Ricca and favorite Uncles Dario and Amadale.
He is survived by his sons, Steven J. Pinelli and wife Marianne and Richard J. Pinelli and wife Tara; 3 grandsons Dominic Pinelli, Vincent Pinelli and wife Elizabeth, and their children, Ava, Luke, and Jack, and Richard Pinelli, Jr.
Jim was a 1944 graduate of Ferndale High School, where he participated in football, wrestling, and baseball. After high school, Jim entered the US Army and was a WWII Veteran, serving honorably in Korea. Post military, Jim played minor league baseball as an accomplished pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization in Kingston, Ontario and Rehoboth Beach, DE. He worked as a master woodworker and pattern maker for United States Steel. After retiring from US Steel, he worked as a pattern maker in a private business for 30 more years.
Jim worked as an official/referee for football, baseball, and wrestling for many years in the Johnstown area. He was also an enthusiastic Pirate, Steeler, and Penguin fan. He also enjoyed watching golf on television.
The family would like to thank all of our family, friends, and neighbors who have been supportive and helpful over the years. Also, many thanks to the caregivers and staff of Laurelview Village and Windber Hospice for their care and compassion for dad through his final days.
There will be no public viewing as the family will celebrate his life with a private service. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
