James Vincent Stager, 92, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024. He was born January 18, 1932, in Johnstown, PA, son of the late Richard G. and Theresa (Kist) Stager.
He was preceded in death by brothers William (Angela), Robert, Donald and sister Martha (Harry) Schutte. Survived by his loving wife Carol Cvrkel Stager of 59 years and children James (Alisia), Susan (Dan) Pavlick, John, all of Pittsburgh and 7 grandchildren Aaron, Alexa, Marija, Rylee, Sarah, Garrett, Abigail and many nieces and nephews.
He attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and was a proud graduate of Johnstown Catholic High, Class of 1950.
He lived a faith-filled life and was a long-time parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows Church. He was a Navy Veteran (1950-1954), having served our Country in the Korean War as a submarine tender. Fondly remembered as the owner of the Westmont Sunoco Gas Station for many years. He was a role model for his children and grandchildren and was so very proud of their many accomplishments and activities. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone, always ready with a dad joke, known to never shy away from a poker game or offer his opinion on the latest Pirate’s move or Steeler’s performance. Ocean City, MD, with a platter of steamed clams, and a good day working in his garden were his happy places. He loved the outdoors and some of his fondest memories were spent with the guys at hunting camp and he never missed an opening day of deer season with his sons. His culinary skill set was limited but he excelled at Sunday morning breakfast. He loved his Pittsburgh sports teams and has been patiently awaiting another championship season from ANY of them.
