James V. Jr. "Jim " Piro, 82, of Johnstown, died November 24, 2025. Born on April 1, 1943 in Johnstown, son of James Sr. and Mary (Distefano) Piro. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rosemary (Piro) Altimore.
Survived by his loving wife of 50 years Lucille (DeMaio); his children Maria of Somerset and James V. III, and his granddaughter Cianna James of PA Furnace. Also survived by his brothers Anthony married to Mary Rita (Manganello), Francis married to Donna (Lambing), and his brother-in-law Ernest Altimore. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
James was a 1961 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He retired from the Tribune Democrat after 36 years of service as a pressman.
James was an avid Notre Dame and Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Pirates.
He was a long-time member of Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Joseph Johns Lodge #214, where he was trustee. A member of the Notre Dame Club of Central Pennsylvania, and was secretary/treasurer of the GCIU for over 18 years. In addition, he was a third-degree Knight of Columbus, as well as a former member of the Saint Anthony’s Holy Name Society.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who will be sadly missed.
Friends will be received from 3-7 PM on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday 11:00 AM at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, formerly St. Anthony Church, Fr. George Gulash. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.
The family would like to thank the staff at Quality Life Services Westmont Woods and the staff of Conemaugh Rose 6 (ICU) and 9 for their excellent care of James.
