Jeffry William Kloss, 76, of Southmont, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 7, 2022, at his residence. He was born on June 15, 1946, in Sharon, PA. He was the son of the late Harold and Beatrice (Eisaman) Kloss.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Catharine (Berret), daughter Ingrid Berret Kloss and son Daniel Jeffry Kloss, and sisters Amy Ayers (Harry), Sally Marrie (Phil), and Pam Monaco (Joe), also loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jeffry was a 1964 graduate of Sharon High School. He earned a degree in Business from Penn State University, a BS in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and studied environmental science at the University of Virginia. Early in his career, he taught grade school in both Windber and Geistown. He was employed by Keystone Health Systems Agency and later served as Executive Director of the Bedford County Planning Commission, where he was instrumental in reviving the Bedford Springs redevelopment project. He retired from the Commission in 2011.
Jeff volunteered his time to the Talus Rock Girl Scout Council, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Lake Glendale Sailing Club (past Commodore). Most recently, he worked extensively with the Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men, an ecumenical service organization based in Buxton, NC. He served as secretary and completed Early Response Training for natural disasters and helped to coordinate assistance for residents affected by Hurricane Dorian, including a mission trip to a severely damaged coastal area.
In his free time, Jeff was an avid golfer and saltwater fisherman. He loved to cook for his family and friends–specialties included his excellent pizza dough and Indian curries. He will be remembered for his humor and wit, dedication to a good (awful) dad joke, and his remarkable warmth and spirit.
Friends received 4-7 PM, Thursday, July 14, 2022, and 11 AM-12 PM, Friday at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Jeff was a member of Resurrection Parish, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 PM Friday. Fr. George Gulash.
The family is very grateful to UPMC Home Health and Windber Hospice, for their compassion and support for Jeff and his family.
In lieu of flowers, you may contribute in his memory to Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men, PO Box 1591, Buxton N.C. 27920, or Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Street, Windber PA 15963.
