John William Burkhard

John William Burkhard, 98, died July 25, 2025 at Quality of Life Services, Johnstown, PA. He was born April 27,1927 in Johnstown, son of William G. and Margaret (Stackhouse) Burkhard.

Preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee "BL" Wolf; his parents; and his sisters, Kathryn Burkhard and Mary Jo (Robert) Callahan.

Survived by his nephew, Dr. Robert (Toni) Callahan, of Johnstown; his niece Margaret Severson, of Cove, Ark; his nephew William (Jill) Callahan, of Fairhope, AL; and nephew, Dr. Daniel (Mary) Callahan, of Kenosha, Wisc.

After graduating from the former Johnstown Catholic High School, John served in the US Navy during World War Il. Upon discharge, he graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College and the University of Maryland, earning BA and MA degrees. He became an executive for the Acme Markets chain. John was very active in civic affairs, becoming executive director of the Greater Johnstown Chamber of Commerce, followed by being a founder and first executive director of Johnstown Area Regional lndustries "JARI". His true passion was golf as a member of both Ligonier and Sunnehanna Country Clubs. After retirement, he and BL enjoyed winters in Florida before returning to their home in Ligonier.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Quality of Life  and AseraCare Hospice for outstanding service during his final years.

Friends received on Friday August 1 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Clement Catholic Church, Johnstown, Fr. William Rosenbaum.

lnterment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, with a military ritual performed by VFW Post 155.
