John J. Slovikovski Sr.

John J. Slovikovski Sr., 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 6, 2023, at Windber Hospice. Born June 3, 1935, in Dunlo, PA. Son of Vincent and Julia (McKlosky) Slovikovski. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Vincent, and nephew Vincent.

Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years Shirley (Mattis), daughter Michelle M. married to George W. Walters III, son Fr. John J. Slovikovski, Pastor of Visitation BVM Parish, grandchildren Katlyn Walters and boyfriend Tim Douglas, Anthony Walters and fiancée Katie (Lambert), nephew Walter Slovikovski (Karen) and their children Maria and Adam.

John was a graduate of Beaverdale High School and St. Francis College with a B.A. in English. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. John retired from Greater Johnstown School District as an English teacher. He loved gardening, reading, and history. He attended his grandchildren's events and loved spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of Visitation BVM Parish. 

Friends received from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd, and from 11 AM to 1 PM Friday at Visitation Church, where Funeral Mass will begin at 1:30 PM.  Fr. John J. Slovikovski, Celebrant.  Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery with Military Ritual conducted by VFW Post 155 at graveside.
