John David Vizza, 62, Westmont, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born March 14, 1962, in Johnstown, son of Merle and Teresa Vizza.
Preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Bruce Younker. Survived by his loving wife Kathleen (Sipes) Vizza, Westmont; and children, Philip John Vizza engaged to Alyssa Rock, Pittsburgh, Kayla Farida Vizza and grandson Reno, Westmont. Also survived by his brothers Peter Vizza, Vincent married to Karen (Twardziak) and Paul Vizza married to Cindy (Popchak); brother-in-law Terry Sipes, sister-in-law Cindy (Sipes) married to Mike Rohrbach, mother-in-law Sandy Younker and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1980. John earned his Cosmetology License and Barber License from the Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology. John worked for Carmelo’s Hair Salon, Angelitto’s Hair Salon and then entered into a partnership. On January 1, 1990, John and Kathy bought the business and named it Salon Vizions. It is located in the Westwood Shopping area. He became a master of his trade by working closely with great artists. He did platform artistry work under Paul Mitchell. He also continued his education by attending the International Beauty Shows in New York City, and other trade shows in Florida and Las Vegas. He also brought in high-level artists to train staff over the years on a regular basis.
John has worked behind the chair for over 40 years and have employed many people over the years. He loved working at the salon and thought the world of his staff. They were his family. He always gave them credit for the wonderful work they did and for making the salon a success. He always enjoyed and greatly appreciated his many customers, many of whom became his lifelong friends.
John was extremely close with his children and had a wonderful relationship with both. John, an avid fisherman, enjoyed many fishing trips with Philip. John and Philip both cherished the time together. John enjoyed being part of Philip’s life with activities such as the charity hockey games and the camaraderie that it brought. Kayla brought joy and happiness to John including the gift of his grandson Reno. They had a unique and strong bond and enjoyed cooking and spending quality time together.
John was an amateur Civil War historian, re-enactor, and loved studying history. John enjoyed gardening and drying peppers. Throughout his life, John supported St. Jude’s, Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer, along with many other organizations. He is an active member of St. Clement Parish and loved the parish festivals.
Friends will be received on Friday November 8, 2024 at 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel 1622 Menoher Blvd., A Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at St. Clement Catholic Church at 1:00 pm. Fr. William Rosenbaum. Interment St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.
