John N. “Chumpy” Derenak, 92, of Johnstown, died suddenly June 18, 2022, in Johnstown. Born on December 19, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Joseph Derenak Sr. and Margaret (Daru).
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul, Joseph, Louis, and Mike Derenak, and sister Louise Gartland.
Survived by loving wife of 67 years Lois (Jordan), children, John N. Derenak Jr. married to Jean, Lynn married to Dr. Douglas Wyatt of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pamela married to Peter DiMarino of Amarillo, Texas, grandchildren, Justin Derenak, Lauren married to Chad Kamler, Dr. Graydon Wyatt, Tyler DiMarino married to Kelsey, and Taylor DiMarino, great-grandchild Zayden Derenak, brothers-in-law, Norbert "Slim" Jordan married to Florence "Tootie" and Dean Jordan married to Patricia, sister-in-law Carol Mikulsky, also nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Greater Johnstown High School and served in the United States Navy. He was a draftsman for Bethlehem Steel Corp. and Cuyahoga Steel Company and was also employed at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, where he was dedicated to his old friends with a handshake. John enjoyed hunting, gardening, bowling, golf, lottery tickets, watching cowboy movies and playing cards. He loved his family and will be sadly missed.
John was a longtime member of St. Benedict Church where Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Fr. David Peles.
Friends received from 4-7 PM Wednesday, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, East Hills Chapel and Crematory, 404 Walters Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15904.
