Joseph Stringent Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Stringent of Upper Yoder on March 11, 2026, affectionately known as Jud, Dad, Pap, and Uncle Junior , who brought joy and warmth to all who knew him.

Born March 8, 1938, in Johnstown, son of Joe and Mary (DeRosa) Stringent. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Albert, William (Joan), Charlie (Penny), George, Edith (Dan Kinol), Ernie (Dolores), Eleanor (Eddie Andolina), Eddie, and Raymond (Joann) Stringent. Survived by his loving wife Patricia (Hartnett), daughter Lisa Bulas (Brian), son Joe Stringent (Meribeth), grandchildren Noah, Mickey, Jack (fiancé Jordan Miller) and Will, great-grandchild Flynn, sister-in-law Rose (Kyler) Stringent, brother-in-law Denny Hartnett, family friend Jackie DeBarto, and loving nieces and nephews.

Pap was not only a beloved husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend but also the culinary genius behind what his grandchildren affectionately called "Pap’s Famous Chicken." This cherished dish was a staple for every family vacation road trip, bringing smiles and delicious memories to countless adventures.

In addition to his chicken, Pap was renowned for his exceptional limoncello, a testament to his love for Italian traditions.

Italian music filled his home (especially at Christmas) with the joyful notes of "Marshmallow World" by Dean Martin, often echoing in the background, capturing his zest for life.

Pap was known for his unique tradition of making CDs during the Christmas season, filled with his favorite holiday songs. He would lovingly pass these out to family, friends, and even strangers, spreading warmth and the holiday spirit to everyone he encountered. (If you have one of his beloved Christmas CDs, please take a moment to play it in his memory.)

Junior cherished family reunions, where laughter and togetherness created lasting bonds.

Pap could always be found with a cup of coffee in hand, often setting it in the microwave and forgetting about it, a small yet endearing quirk that brought smiles to those around him.

As we celebrate Jud’s life, we honor the love and joy he shared, the recipes he passed down, and the warm memories he created. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit will remain in our hearts and in every family gathering.

Rest in peace. You will be profoundly missed, but your legacy will live on through the love of family and the flavors of your beloved dishes.
