Josephine Caroline Midile, of Johnstown, died at age 93 (nearly 94) on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. She was the third born child to Pasquale and Josephine (Georgianni) Midile on April 23, 1927 in Johnstown.
Josephine C. is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph, sisters, Antoinette DeMarco, Catherine Rizzo and baby sister, Mary Agnes.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Mary Jane Pinna of Johnstown, first cousins, Mary Yeager of Richland and Josephine, wife of Dave Hentz of Indiana. Although Josephine C. was unmarried without children, she was well loved as "Aunt Phinnie," by surviving nephews, Patrick, Joseph and Michael Midile, nieces, Barbara Ann Simpson, Valerie Kanuch, and Anne Marie DeMarco, and nephews Ralph, Robert and Richard DeMarco, niece Laurie Conley and husband Dave, nephew, Leonard Pinna and great nephew, Matthew Pinna, cousins John and Ella Foster, and many other cousins. She was a great Aunt and great, great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and indeed was also known as "Aunt Phinnie" by many of the neighborhood kids growing up in Conemaugh Borough.
She lived in the family homestead and took care of her aging parents. As an active career woman, Josephine was known as "Joey" by her associates and customers at Cambria Savings and Loan and then at PNC on Franklin Street where she worked as the head of new accounts. After retiring from banking she was mostly known as "Feeney" by her numerous friends and social acquaintances. As an energetic and engaged person in life, she was a member of numerous clubs over the years, including the Democratic Club, the Galleria Walkers and at St. Anthony's (Clare's) church she participated in Christian Mothers and Bingo night, volunteered for the Spaghetti dinner and holiday nut-roll making, and was the responsible treasurer for the annual church festival. She loved her independence and continued to drive up until this year. She also loved her many bus trips to out of town locations. Her vivacious personality made her quite endearing, and she will be greatly missed by all. Josephine was a creative person and was a lover of beauty in a myriad of ways. She loved her colorful flower boxes, and she was known throughout the years as a stylish dresser; her outfits were as colorful as her personality, and she embraced every fad. She always appeared 10-20 years younger than her age and certainly kept people guessing.
Josephine was active member of St. Clare of Assisi Church in Woodvale, where Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 1:30 PM. Fr. George Gulash. Friends and family will be received from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery.
