Juanita Grace Canary, 97, passed away on July 17, 2025. Born in Johnstown on April 12, 1928 to the late Harry and Grace Royston.
Preceded in death by husband, Donald, and son-in-law, Mike Swick. She is survived by seven children: Larry Canary (Vicki) Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Barb Munzer (Dr. Fred) Johnstown, Colleen Gisler (James) Lewes, DE, Connie Heider (Tom) Zanesville, OH, Donna Vitovich (Chris) Virginia Beach, VA, Ginny Swick Prohaska (John) Jupiter, FL, and Mary Myers (Matt) Erie, PA; nine grandchildren: Kevin, Scott, Sean, Michael, Ryan, Grace, Lauren, Steven, and Sean; and ten great-grandchildren: Zae, Cash, Cate, Haley, Lily, Ella, Echo, Evan, her namesake, Danica Juanita, and Miles.
Juanita was a 1947 Graduate of Johnstown Central Catholic. She was an active member of St. Columba Parish for over 60 years where she served as President of Finance Council, VP of Ladies Guild, Lector/Cantor, Eucharistic Minister and Choir. Current member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Juanita was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith. She honored her Irish heritage by joining The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, serving as President and attending State and National Conventions. True to her spirit, Juanita volunteered for almost 50 years at Mercy Hospital and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Oncology and Palliative Care, assisting patients and families in their time of need. Member of Conemaugh Auxiliary and Caring Friends, volunteer at Johnstown Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Juanita was an avid reader, loved to travel, visit family and friends, sing, and dance (thanks for the lessons, Gene Kelly). She never missed watching a Notre Dame or Steeler game, loved nature programs, Jeopardy, classic movies and visiting zoos, especially the Erie Zoo to visit her orangutan friend, Dasa. To honor Juanita, please do an act of kindness in her memory.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at St. John Gaulbert Cathedral. Interment at Grandview Cemetery to follow.
