Kenneth T. Freddes, 87, of Upper Yoder, died peacefully at Cambria Care Center on January 2, 2021. Born on August 9,1933 in Johnstown, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Nicharot) Freddes.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Francis, wife Donna (Tavalsky) and son Kenneth D. Freddes.
Survived by his loving, brother Charles Freddes of Colorado, son Gregory and daughter-in-law Fukuko Suzuki of Japan, daughter Lisa Ann and son-in-law James V. Espey Jr. of North Carolina, son Jeffery of Pittsburgh, granddaughter Jocelyn Mir of Virginia, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ken was a 1951 graduate of Johnstown High School. From that year he began touring the U.S. as drummer with Russ Carlyle And His Orchestra. Returning to Johnstown in 1953 he married, graduated from Cambria Rowe Business College and worked for many years at Penn Traffic Company as Manager of Accounting and EDP Manager. In later years he worked at Penn Machines, IBM in Boca Raton, Florida, and Laurel Technologies of Johnstown. His Jazz band performed weekly for many years at Sunnehanna Country Club.
Ken loved nature, great food, fishing and gardening. One of his favorite passages was the following: “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.- Matthew 6:28”
Additionally, through his gifts in music, humor and storytelling, he could light up any room. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
All funeral services were held privately due to Covid 19 restrictions.
