Marjorie E Hughes, 97, of Johnstown died on October 1, 2021, at the Allegheny Lutheran Home. Born May 16, 1924, in Derry, PA.
She was the last surviving member of her family.
Preceded in death by parents Donald and Henrietta Ruffner, husband Jack, grandson John Anderson, brothers, Donald, Charles, Edward, and John David and sister Mary Lou Sinclair.
Survived by her children James Michael (Judy), John Patrick (Marilyn), Mary Kathryn (Carl Anderson), Donald Christopher, and Nancy (Gary Cowan), eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, sisters-in- laws, Audrey Ruffner, Elaine Ruffner, brother-in-law, Thomas Hughes, many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Marge.
Marjorie was a graduate of Windber High school where she met her future husband, Jack. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, A nursing instructor at Conemaugh School of Nursing until her retirement.
She was an accomplished bridge player, loved to quilt, sew, crochet, knit and other needle crafts. She crocheted mats for the homeless using plastic grocery bags as the material and made over 100 face masks for family, residents, and staff at the Lutheran Home. She had a love for travel and going to the beach, an avid reader and did a crossword puzzle daily. She volunteered for many years at various local community organizations
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-7 on Sunday October 10, 2021, at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown, PA. 15905.
Marjorie was a longtime member of St. Clement Parish where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 11, 2021, at 11:00, the Reverend William E. Rosenbaum.
Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
Face masks are required for viewing and funeral mass.
