Mary Joan Garrity

Mary Joan Garrity, 83 of Johnstown, died at Heritage Ridge Retirement Facility March 12, 2025. Born September 8, 1941 in Johnstown, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Horan) Stadtmiller. Preceded in death by her daughter Laura Marie Garrity-Shroff on October 15, 2012 and daughter in law Emelia Luisa Garrity on March 31, 2007, brothers-in-law Richard Garrity and Gary Irwin.  Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Garrity, her son Jonathan James Garrity: her grandchildren: Jocelyn Alexis (Garrity) Lee, Jacob Andrew, Elizabeth Mary and James Franklin; her sister Yvonne Elizabeth (Stadmiller) Irwin and, brother-in-law William (Rosemary); her sister-in-law Dolly Garrity; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She graduated from Johnstown Catholic High in 1959 and Carlow College in 1977. Mary worked as a school librarian for Torrance Unified School District in California and became a real estate agent in Torrance, CA to participate in the redevelopment of her adopted home city. She was an active member of the Friends of Madrona Marsh and donated her time to the OMOS Knit Group upon her return to Johnstown. Mary was an artist, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mary was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday March 20th, 2025, 415 Tioga Street, Johnstown, PA 15905, Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. Private Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
