Mary Hoppel, 92, formerly of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on June 24, 2025 in Richmond, Virginia.
She was born January 19, 1933 in Munster Twp., PA., to the late John and Beatrice (Farabaugh) Noel.
Mary is the loving wife of William H. Hoppel, who passed away on September 2, 2019. Also preceded in death by her sisters, Geraldine Diehl-Nagle, Rita Rodgers, Lucille Barton, Laverne Tracy, Jean O’Donnell, Norma Rupp, and Mildred Duman.
She is survived by three children: Cathy Gadecki (Steve), Beth Barnett (Tim), and Jim Hoppel (Kris) along with ten grandchildren: Alex Gadecki, Chris Barnett, Eric Gadecki-Mijares (Kelli), Kara Gadecki, Matt Barnett (Julia), Jacob Hoppel (Cara), Paul Gadecki, Anna Gadecki, Annmarie Hoppel, and Andy Barnett and two great-grandchildren: Novena and Sebastian Hoppel.
Mary retired as a registered nurse from the Altoona Veterans Hospital when her children were born and later volunteered extensively at St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also worked in a local doctor’s office for 10 years. She was a long-time, active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Mary loved having her family together. Special memories include summer vacations to the beach and camp, as well as endless summers at Bethco Pines. She also enjoyed being with her many friends, playing cards, bowling, golfing, and traveling.
In 2017, Mary and Bill moved to Richmond, VA, to be closer to family, where they were able to spend more time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited 4:00 pm-7:00 pm on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd, Johnstown, PA 15905. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Very Rev. Mark S. Begly.
Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery.
