Mary Jo Murgas

Mary Jo Murgas, 86, of Westmont, passed away June 29, 2026 in Johnstown PA. She was born on January 5, 1940 in Johnstown, the daughter of Lawrence Mundok and Margaret (Scott). She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Murgas III; her grandson, Brendan Cleary; and sister-in-law Rita Mudok. 

Survived by her loving husband, Stephen; her daughters: Stephanie (Kevin Cleary) of Richmond VA, Victoria Murgas of Johnstown, Jacqueline (Bill Borman) of Langhorne PA; her grandchildren: Kaitlin and Meghan Cleary, Camryn and Addison Borman; her sisters: Janet Pribish (David), Peggy Cavanaugh (Joseph), and Theresa Tyler (Richard); brother Lawrence Mundok. Also survived by her many nieces and nephews, her brothers and sisters in law, and many friends.

Mary Jo graduated from Johnstown Catholic High school. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Carlow College and her Master of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh. 

More than anything, she was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved, creating countless memories through family gatherings, holiday celebrations, birthdays, and traditions that will live on for generations.

A devoted member of St. Clement Parish, she faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister and lived her Catholic faith through kindness, compassion, and service to others. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—losing herself in a good book, relaxing in the pool,spending time on the golf course, visiting the casino, and sharing laughter with family and friends.

She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Whether you knew her for a lifetime or met her only once, she had a way of touching your heart with her warmth, generosity, and genuine interest in others. Her love was unconditional, and her presence made every gathering brighter.

Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, joyful laughter, and a family united by the values she lived every day. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends and everyone whose life she touched.

Friends received from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Friday July 3, 2026 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. 

Funeral Mass to follow at 1:00 pm on Friday at St. Clement Catholic Church, Fr. William Rosenbaum. Private interment at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Cambria County Library (Attn: Library Director, 248 Main Street, Johnstown, PA 15901) in memory of Mary Jo Murgas.
