Patricia Ann “Patty” (Vavrek) Hipp

Patricia Ann “Patty” (Vavrek) Hipp passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on March 27, 1935, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Patty was the daughter of John and Annamae (Barclay) Vavrek and shared a particularly close bond with her mother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, William J. Hipp, who passed away in April 2026; her cherished mother, Annamae (Barclay) Vavrek; her infant brother, John W. Vavrek; and her father, John Vavrek.

Patty graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School (now Bishop McCort Catholic High School) in 1952 before earning her nursing degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Her nursing career spanned more than 30 years, during which she served in the Mercy Hospital Emergency Department, the Lee Hospital Recovery Room, and the office of Dr. Leo E. O’Connor. She dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally as a nurse and personally as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Together, Patty and Bill built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering love throughout their 69 years of marriage. One of Patty’s favorite pastimes was going to the racetrack with her mother and with Bill, where they shared many happy memories over the years. She found joy in life’s simple moments and treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved.

She is survived by her son, William D. Hipp and his wife, Tracey (Barkley) Hipp, and her daughter, Pamela A. Kirby and her fiancé, Robert Gray. She was a proud grandmother to Sara E. (Kirby) Baillie and her husband, Cameron Baillie; Ashlie N. Hipp and her fiancé, John Katich; and William L. Hipp. She was also the cherished great-grandmother, affectionately known as “GiGi,” to Connor Baillie.

Guided by her faith and devoted to her family, Patty was a longtime member of St. Clement Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her quick wit, caring heart, quiet strength, and the warmth she brought to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

In accordance with Patty’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation. Funeral Mass 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026 at St. Clement Parish, 114 Lindberg Avenue, johnstown, PA 15905.
