He was employed for 36 years by Bethlehem Steel where he worked as a shipping clerk and a customer service representative. He was a member of the Johnstown Fraternal Order of the Elks, the American Legion, and the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Company which led to him calling bingo at the jubilee for many years. Bob enjoyed camping and his yearly visits to Florida where he established many close friendships.  He was proud of his Irish heritage and especially liked the music of the Irish Rovers.
