Robert Lynn Birchfield, (93) of Johnstown passed away June 22, 2026, at Windber Woods. He was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Windber, PA to Luther Birchfield and Jennie (Boyer) Birchfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Luther Birchfield, Jr.; and his sisters, Phyllis Flournoy, Marjorie Oldham, and Janet Myers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Sue (Powers) Birchfield; his daughter, Vicki (Greg) Bengeult of Green Valley AZ; his son, Michael (Susan) Birchfield of Kingsville MD; his stepdaughter, Gwendolyn (Robert III) Stokes of Tampa FL; his grandson Mikie Birchfield; his granddaughter Maggie Stokes; his sister, Judy Elgin of Bowie Md; and his beloved felines Sadie and Sophie.
Bob attended McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C.
He served in the Navy as an Aerographer's Mate (AG) on the aircraft carrier Hornet during the Korean War.
He was employed by the National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), an agency of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce. For 14 years prior to his retirement in 1997, he served as a Deputy Director of WASC (Western Administrative Support Center) in Seattle, WA.
