Robert Dernar

Robert Dernar, 86, of Mundy's Corner, died on December 15, 2021. Born on July 30, 1935 in Johnstown, PA, son of John and Mary (Mitrik) Dernar.

Robert was fond of fishing, hunting, automobiles, and was proud of serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Semper Fi!

Robert was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation and was the caretaker of several cemeteries in the Johnstown area where he acquired his nickname, "Digger".

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Mitrik) Dernar, Son-in-Law Richard Helmick, siblings Michael Dernar, John Dernar, Margaret Deitke, Anna Percinsky, and Richard Dernar. In laws Richard and Shirley Wendell, William Harris, Robert Novitsky, and Larry McCann.

Survived by his wife and life companion of 59 years, Yvonne (Keslar) Dernar,  daughter Sherry (Dernar) Helmick, Son Gregory Dernar (Barbara Ellenberger), Son David Dernar (Bridgette Brezovic). Grandchildren Alexa Helmick, Tyler Helmick, Michael Dernar, Matthew Dernar, Rebecca Dernar, Zachary Dernar, and Nicholas Josephson. Robert is also survived by five great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
