S. James " Jimmy" Azar, 77 of Westmont, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2022, at home with his loving wife by his side. Born July 19, 1945, in Johnstown, PA, son of Stanley and Anne (Zappernich) Azar. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and David Azar, stepson Matthew Truscello, and in-laws John and Sophie Regula.
Survived by his wife of 37 years Rita (Regula), sisters Janet (the late John Rok), Kathy (Don McMillan), and Mary (David Thomas), nieces, nephews, and cousins, brother-in-law Jim Regula (Lynne) and sister-in-law Mary Ann (Richard Stewart), and sadly missed by his grandchildren Sophia Rose Swanlek and Jackson Russell Truscello.
Jim was a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and West Virginia University and retired from High Mark Blue Shield.
He was known for his gob cake, delicious pies, cakes, and chicken soup. He was happiest in the company of his friends and family. He enjoyed golfing, playing poker, and going to casinos. He was a kind and generous man, with a quick wit, and great sense of humor. Jim was the definition of being a good neighbor who was always ready to step up and lend a helping hand. Jim was the essence of a devoted husband, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He will be missed every day. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, where he served on the parish council, the stewardship committee, and was a Knight in the Order of St. Ignatius.
Friends received from 3-7 PM Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. where Trisagion Prayers of Mercy will be sung at 6 PM for family and friends. Also, Trisagion Prayers of Mercy will be sung at the Funeral Home 10 AM Friday, with Funeral Service to follow at St. Mary Antiochian at 10:30 AM. the Very Rev. Fr. Donald Shadid and Rev. Fr. Christopher Shadid. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
