Samuel R. DiFrancesco, age 88, longtime resident of Westmont, died on August 1, 2021 at Laurelview Village. Born on January 1, 1933 in Johnstown, son of Samuel and Mary Grace (Fatica) DiFrancesco.
Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Mary (Mastromatteo); children, Matthew, married to Anne (Abood); Angela, wife of Richard Nichols; Christina DiFrancesco, married to Luis Olay; 10 grandchildren, Nolan, Luke, Daniel, and Nathan DiFrancesco; Christopher, Sarah, and Annamarie Nichols; Sofia, Emilio, and Maria Olay DiFrancesco; brother James R. DiFrancesco, married to Cheryl.
Sam graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School in 1950, University of Michigan in 1954, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1957. Admitted to practice before all of the Court of Commonwealth of PA, as well at United States Federal Courts. His work primarily focused on personal injuries, both civil and before the Worker's Compensation Bureau, and estates. He was a former Public Defender of Cambria County, and a former assistant Solicitor for the City of Johnstown. Sam was a member of Pennsylvania and American Trial Lawyers Associations, Worker's Compensation Section of the PBA, Supreme Court Disciplinary Board Hearing Committee, past president and member of Johnstown Kiwanis Club, Board Managers of Cambria County Bar, and past President of Cambria County Bar Association. He was also a past board member of these organizations; Citizens Cemetery Association, Greater Johnstown YMCA, The Johnstown Jazz workshop, Professional Family Care Services, Westmont Family Counseling Ministries, and on the building and grounds committee of the Citizens Cemetery Association. He was also a past instructor of Business Law at St. Francis College.
Sam was a former partner and trial lawyer with Gleason, Barbin, and Markovitz. He enjoyed singing and was a guest singer at the Holiday Inn. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather. His smile and quick wit will be sadly missed.
Friends will be received from 2-7 PM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905.
Sam was a life member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where he was an usher, and founding member of the Assistance Ministry.
Friends of the DiFrancesco family will meet at Our Mother of Sorrows Church for a Funeral Mass 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021. Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
